Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Manning.
Caitlin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I remember vividly when my interest in photography began. I was about 12 years old and on Christmas Day I found a pink plastic camera under the tree. It wasn’t something that was even on my list, but I took my first shot with it and I’ve been hooked every since.
Growing up, I started out taking photos in the backyard of mom’s beautiful garden. Once I moved on to high school, I enrolled in an elective class that combined graphic design and photography, allowing me to broaden my skills in a more professional way.
My teacher at the time saw how much I loved photography and being in the darkroom, so he gave me as much free time as I wanted to come into the studio and work on my own personal projects. I began using black & white film, learning more about contrast and composition, and really figuring out why I was so drawn to taking photographs.
